In regions like Delhi and Telangana, the tariffs have a complicated structure. The consumer has to be aware of the implications of crossing slabs which can be very expensive !
In Delhi, the Government made an announcement of 50% reduction in tariff rates for consumers who use less than 400 units per month. But if the consumer uses more than 400 units, they cannot avail any discount. The monthly electricity charges for 399 units would work out to be 992 INR and for 401 units 1997 INR. In this case the 2 additional units cost more than 1000 INR.
In Telangana the monthly electricity charges for 199 units is 616.14 INR and for 201 units is 826.8 INR. Had the consumer been aware of this dramatic increase of 210 INR for 2 units, she would have made all attempts to stay below 200 units
