Community Living_Lighting for RWA
Lighting incorporates a major portion of your common electricity bill under maintenance charges for your apartment community.
- Typical common areas include lighting mainly in the following places :-
a. Entrance Lobbies
b. arking areas
c. Street lights
d. Lights in parks, gardens and swimming pools
e. Lift lobbies
- There are five basic considerations when evaluating a lighting system:
(a)Intensity of the lighting: how bright is the light?
(b)Uniformity of lighting: how consistent is the light level from place to place throughout the lighted area?
(c)Color of lighting: how accurately does the lighting render colors?
(d) Efficiency of lighting: how much light per watt of electricity does the lighting system deliver?
(e) Lamp life: How long do lamps last before they must be replaced?
- After selecting the above parameters, it’s time to decide on the type of bulbs to be used. The popular types of bulbs available in market are as follows :-
a. Incandescent is the most commonly used light bulb and usually the least expensive. They usually last between 700 to 1,000 hours and are not as energy efficient as other options.
b. Halogen bulbs give the closest approximation of natural daylight, known as "white light." Colors appear sharper under halogen light and the bulbs can be dimmed. They're a little more energy efficient than incandescent bulbs, but are more expensive and burn at a higher temperature.
c. Compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) consume a quarter of the energy that incandescent bulbs do and last 10 times longer. Unlike the old fluorescent lights, CFLs are quiet, instant-on and have warmer, color-corrected tones.
d. LED, which stands for "light-emitting diode," is a lighting technology that is long-lasting and extremely energy-efficient.they provide only directional light, not diffused light, making them ideal for under-counter task lighting, but not general room illumination.
However , as pioneers of energy saving and eco-friendliness, LEDs are now being recommended to replace other bulbs.
